Jen & Jason: Perth Wedding Photography

Before I met Jen and Jason, via email, Jen informed me that their wedding was going to be semi-unusual as she was not wearing a traditional wedding dress and that they were trying to make it as least wedding-like as possible.

When I met them, they showed me the picture of the dress, the car that they had hired and informed me it was a 50’s style wedding.  Well a wedding set in the era between 1955 and 1965.  After Jen chose her dress apparently the theme just grew from there.

Jen and Jason met 14 years ago and their wedding date was 14 years to the day that they officially called themselves a couple!. Their families had given up on them getting married so not only did they surprise them, by getting engaged, they kept the theme of the wedding a secret.  For their wedding invite, they sent out vintage Hawaii postcards, fuelling speculation that they had a Hawaiian theme for the wedding party.

I met Jen and Jason before the ceremony for photos so that they could party with their friends straight after the ceremony and not leave their guests for a couple of hours (with all the food and alcohol, far better to enjoy it with their guests).  One of the venues for the photos was the Como Hotel.  The décor is distinctly 50’s, especially the upstairs area and there was even a cute moped to have a couple of poses on!

It was a pretty amazing wedding to shoot, but my favourite part was definitely when Jen and Jason appeared at Heathcote to walk down the aisle together and their family and friends all gasped and cheered at their cool get up.  It kind of made me want to be a videographer, for a split second and then I snapped out of it.  After the ceremony, the couple and guests relaxed in the wine room and balcony eating, drinking and listening to the cool sounds from 1955-1965.

Congratulations Jen and Jason!  Thankyou for inviting me to be apart of your day and capture your amazingly cool wedding!

Jen’s talented sister Katherine, made the cake.  You would have seen one of her previous creations from Azar & Jason’s wedding photos.

Tracey & George: Wedding Photography

This was my first wedding in the Macedonian Orthodox Church of St Nikola in North Perth, and it has to be one of the most stunning churches in Perth. The light inside was amazing and the details were just beautiful. Definitely a hidden gem in Perth. Tracey informed me that George designed the Church and I was blown away not only with the beauty of the design, but the generosity of George in giving back to his community.

I always feel so clumsy and awkward in Churches, probably steaming from my school days where I accidentally dropped hymn books or tripped over pews sneaking in to chapel late, making too much noise and drawing attention to my tardiness… So it was refreshing to see how comfortable George and Tracey were throughout the ceremony laughing at each other and enjoying the ceremony, which apparently was a long time coming :)

After the ceremony the bridal party headed to Hyde Park for a short photo session. The light in the afternoon at the church was Perth’s typical harsh, bright light, but under the trees it created this beautiful light and I was so amazed at how the images turned out. I love the creaminess of the images under the trees and to me they feel like film images, not digital (which is what I try and strive for).

Thankyou Tracey & George for inviting me to share your special day, and I hope you enjoy the images from the day!
