Jess & Kurt: Perth Wedding Photography

I feel like I talk about wedding weather alot, but this wedding was in 38 degree heat which had me melting and I’m sure that my face was a lovely shade of bright red throughout the afternoon.  Jess and Kurt, used to Karratha’s heat, looked fresh all afternoon.  Good thing I am the one behind the camera…

The ceremony was so pretty, at Quarantine Park in Bicton.  Although I have been here so many times (because this is the hood I grew up in, sorry, people that grew up spending summers swimming at Bicton Baths shouldn’t say hood…) I have never photographed a wedding here and it is so beautiful!  I loved how I could use the leaves to frame the ceremony photos, and the colours were so golden.  After the ceremony we ventured to Fremantle (YAY!!!) for some photos at the Round House, Cliff Street and the E-Shed markets.  I got to ride up front in the limo which was a VERY cool 1929 dodge stretched limo hired from Thirties Limosines.  We had time for a few photos back at Bicton Baths before Jess & Kurt entered the reception at the East Fremantle Yacht Club.

I always thought that the Round House was built by convicts, I am pretty sure that was taught to me in Primary School but I found out LAST WEEK it was built 20 years before convicts arrived in Fremantle!  Has nothing to do with the wedding, but I was shocked that I had believed a lie all these years (and maybe spread the lie to unsuspecting tourist friends who have visited me in Fremantle) and never bothered to read that little black plaque on the wall that is in many of my wedding and portrait photos that I take here…

I think that the limo really suited this location, it does have a little bit of a bonnie & clyde feel to it!   You can imagine a heist going down in the warehouse… well I can anyway!

Best thing about having black and white as your theme colours for a wedding?  Gorgeous black heels that you can wear again!  How cool does Jess’s tattoo look?!

Silvia, Chris & Jonathan: Family Photography

I met Silvia, Chris, Jonathan and their dog Charlie (who is a bundle of energy) at Bicton Baths on a Sunday morning at 8am!  Ahhh the life of a photographer.  Silvia & Chris had their wedding photos taken here so thought it would be nice to have some family portraits here, now they have moved on to a new phase in their married life, I think the phase that means that 8am is an acceptable time to get out of the house.  I am not quite there yet and was very glad to be behind the camera rather than in front of it - a feeling I get quite often to be honest!

Bicton Baths is such a beautiful location and the morning was truly stunning and suited this gorgeous family.  And I think Jonathan is the first child I have completed a family portrait session with that didn’t cry, yell ‘no’ at me, run away from me or generally hate me.  YES!!!  I love taking family portraits but it is hard when the little, cute ones in the family take an instant dislike to you…  But Jonathan had a really curious nature and was looking at the camera and even crawling towards me!

The Emmerts: Family Photography

My sister and her family came over from Queensland for Christmas and Christmas day we walked down from the folks house to the Bicton foreshore to get some family shots with the kids.  So they were a little bit over tired from all the excitement from the day and it took a while to tear them away from their tonka toys.  I don’t get to see my two little nephews very often, the last time I saw them was in April and it is amazing how different their personalities are!  Lochie is a serious little man and Bailey is a little gigglepot (although not when Aunty Em gave him a ’scary’ baby dinosaur that roars for Christmas - whoops).

The way parents get kids to giggle and laugh at a shoot seems to be chucking them into the air…???
